HCHC is deeply saddened to announce the passing of distinguished alumnus V. Rev. Theodore P. Phillips, MDiv, who fell asleep in the Lord outside San Diego, CA, on August 23. He was 87 years old.
Ordained shortly after graduating from Holy Cross in 1953, Fr. Phillips served three parishes in California over the course of his fifty-year career: St. Basil Church in Stockton (1953-1965), St. Spyridon Church in San Diego (1965-1978), and Sts. Constantine and Helen Church in Cardiff-by-the-Sea (1978-2006), where he was Pastor Emeritus from his retirement until his passing.
In 1997 he was honored for his many contributions to the Church with the title Protopresbyter, the highest rank possible for a married priest. Those contributions included helping to found the Folk Dance and Choral Festival, the largest youth ministry program in the Archdiocese, and serving for many years as a hospital chaplain.
Fr. Phillips was married to Presvytera Mary for 63 years, until her passing earlier this year. He is survived by two children and one grandson.
May his memory be eternal!
