HCHC intramural sports kicked off—literally—with the first flag football game on Saturday, September 17. The six teams in the men’s league and the three teams in the women’s league include some seventy students from both Hellenic College and Holy Cross.
Besides football, the Athletics Committee hosts open gym pickup basketball on Monday and Wednesday evenings and pickup soccer games on Sunday afternoons. Soon there will be a volleyball night too and, as if all that weren’t enough, the AC hopes to add more activities down the road—even glow-in-the-dark ultimate Frisbee. Come spring, intramural basketball, a mainstay of student life on campus since the school’s earliest days, will start up again in the Pappas Gymnasium, where older alums remember the Boston Celtics practicing back in the Larry Bird era.
Demetri Constantine, AC President, says, “The purpose of all these events and activities is to provide a sport for everyone. Lots of times the football players don’t really play volleyball and vice versa. With this variety, we can offer something for everyone. It’s a lot of fun and great fellowship and community-building, as well as good exercise.”
