His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America announces the appointment of Fr. Gregory Gounardes as the new Proistamenos of Saints Demetrios and George Greek Orthodox Church in New York City, effective June 16, 2026. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Fr. Gregory is a graduate of Brooklyn College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. He has faithfully served the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in the Office of the Chancellor, as well as Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral in Brooklyn as a Pastoral Assistant and Religion teacher.
Fr. Gregory was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on November 2, 2024, and to the Holy Priesthood on March 1, 2025, by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros. He is joined in this new ministry by his wife, Presvytera Andrea, and their infant son, Nektarios. As the Gounardes family begins this new chapter of service, His Eminence asks the faithful to keep them in their prayers and wishes them abundant blessings as they minister to the parish family of Saints Demetrios and George.
