IN MEMORY – Archpriest Romulus Barr (1945 – 2019)

North Port, FL — On Sunday, May 12, 2019, Archpriest Romulus Barr fell asleep in the Lord in the hospital following a recent illness.  The family reports that he passed peacefully while a priest read the prayers for the departure of the soul from the body.

Romulus Barr was born on February 10, 1945, in Carpinis, Alba County, Romania. He attended the Theological Seminary in Cluj-Napoca from 1959-1965 and the Faculty of Theology in Sibiu (1965-1969) from where he received his theological degree.

Romulus Barr married Maria Cimpean on April 3, 1969, and was ordained a deacon and priest in September 1969.  In Romania, he served Holy Archangels Parish in Musca, and St. Luke Parish in Sibiu. After coming to the USA in 1996, he served the following parishes: St. Mary, Dallas, TX; St. Mary, Portland, OR; St. Andrew, Brooksville, FL; St. Stephen the Great, Clearwater, FL.

Archpriest Romulus Barr retired on September 1, 2010. However, he graciously came out of retirement in January 2018 to once again serve St. Stephen the Great Parish in Clearwater, FL.

Archpriest Romulus is survived by his Preoteasa Maria and their two children: Romulus and Anca.  

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 16 at St. Stephen the Great Parish, 219 S Betty Ln, Clearwater, Florida. Schedule: Wake Service (10:30 am); Divine Liturgy (11 am) followed by the Funeral Service for a Priest and Memorial Service. The church will be open from 10 am – 4 pm, after which Archpriest Romulus will be interred. May God grant him rest, and may his memory be eternal!
