Audit Committee of the UOC of the USA Convenes Prior to the Annual Meeting of the Council of Metropolia
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA’s Audit Committee met at the spiritual headquarters – Metropolia Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook, NJ on Thursday and Friday, April 6-7, 2017 to review the financial reports of the Consistory, which serves as the Church’s executive body as well as financial reports of Central Organizations of the UOC of the USA.
Welcoming the members of the Audit Committee to the Spiritual Center of the UOC of the USA, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, President of the Consistory, spoke of the spiritual mission of the Church, stating that even basic “business” transactions in the life of the Church have spiritual dimensions, since the Church administers “the gifts of love” that thousands of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians across the country offer to the Lord and to the Salvific Mission of His Church.
The Church’s Audit Committee (that consists of Mrs. Elizabeth Davies of St. Anthony of the Desert Ukrainian Orthodox Mission in Las Cruses – chairperson; Very Rev. Fr. Oleh Hucul, pastor of Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Maplewood, NJ; Rev. Fr. Michael Danczak, pastor of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Coatesville, PA; Mrs. Tamara Host of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, OH and Mrs. Stephanie Rimedio of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown, OH) has reviewed the financial policies and procedures that provide controls over contributions and expenditures of Church funds and that safeguard assets of the Church. The Audit Committee has also reviewed budgeting, accounting and reporting process for the year ended 31 December 2016 as well as the available reports, ending by March 30, 2017.
Central Church Organizations, including Senior and Junior Ukrainian Orthodox League, All Saints Camp, St. Andrew’s Society, St. Sophia Seminary, report to their elected Leadership National Executive Boards, while maintaining their own accounting systems in accordance with accepted business practices and guidelines of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA.
Visiting the Working Session of the Audit Committee, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony expressed his gratitude to the members of the Committee for their service in the life of the Church and encouraged them to offer their suggestions, following the review of financial books, to the upcoming session of the Council of Metropolia during he Bright Week – 20-23 April, 2017.
The Audit Committee of the Church is elected by Regular Sobors of the Church for the term of three years and meets semi-annually to review financial statements and records in order to report to the Metropolitan Council of the Church and ultimately to the Sobor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA.
