Hierarchs of the Church Meet with the Archbishop of Australia
On Thursday – July 7, 2016 – the feast day of Nativity of Holy Prophet John the Baptist, following the Liturgical services at St. Afanasiy Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Granville, (Australia) His Eminence Metropolitan Antony and His Grace Bishop Daniel, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Michael Solomko (St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Canberra) traveled to Sydney for a meeting with His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
During the cordial meeting, Archbishop Stylianos (in a presence of His Grace Bishop Seraphim of Apollonias, Vicar General of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia) shared with the bishops of the UOC of the USA the historical account of the arrival of Greek Orthodox faithful to Australia. Meantime, Vladyka Antony shared with the Archbishop of Australia a historical account of Ukrainian immigrants that have settled in Australia and New Zealand. Being the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and in Diaspora, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony presented a brief overview of the ecclesiastical communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox faithful across the globe.
Moreover, the conversation also touched upon the significance of the Holy and Great Council of the Holy Orthodox Church that recently took place in Crete, Greece and in which Metropolitan Antony took part and was the first hierarch of Ukrainian Orthodox descent to participate in the Great Council of the Holy Orthodox Church.
In addition, Archbishop Stylianos shared with the hierarchs in attendance the historical account of the Catholic-Orthodox dialogue, which the Archbishop co-chaired for a number of years. This conversation was of a particular interest to His Grace Bishop Daniel, as he is one of the seven Orthodox hierarchs in the United States of America, who is a member of North-American Orthodox-Catholic Dialogue of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America co-chaired by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodius of Boston and Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley, OFM of Boston, MA.
At the end of the meeting, the hierarchs of the UOC of the USA presented Archbishop of Australia copies of a Service Book of the Church in English and Ukrainian languages.
