St. Innocent Church in Redford, MI was blessed to have Fr. Jerome Sanderson visit and speak on Saturday February 11th and Sunday, February 12th. On Saturday between 1:00 and 4:00 Fr. Jerome gave two Pre-Lenten meditations entitled “Covering Your Brother’s Sins,” with a break in the middle for refreshments and fellowship in the church hall. Many of the people present stayed for Vespers that immediately followed at 4:00.
Fr. Jerome’s presentation was sponsored by the Detroit Chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black (BSMB). Fr. Jerome is one of the founders of the national Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black in 1993, and is currently its Vice President. (Fr. Roman is a member of the National Board of the BSMB, and is the Founder and Spiritual Advisor of the Detroit Chapter of the BSMB, the first local chapter, established 10 years ago in 2007.) Fr. Jerome is an Orthodox priest, an iconographer, woodcarver, author, musician, Pastor of a small parish in southern Indiana, and a most inspiring preacher/speaker.
On Sunday, Fr. Jerome concelebrated Divine Liturgy with the parish clergy — Archpriest Roman Star, Dean of the Central States Deanery, Fr. Daneil Shirak, and Deacon Joshua Genig — and also gave an inspiring homily about the Prodigal Son and the elder brother. Fr. Jerome’s gentle, kind, loving manner and profound humility enable people to encounter a rare example of what a Christian can become when they give over their entire life to making God first in their hearts and their lives. This is the third year that Fr. Jerome has given a presentation at St. Innocent, co-sponsored by the Detroit Chapter of the BSMB. We look forward to his visit and retreat-like meditations again next year, around early February.
