JOHNSTOWN, PA – With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that Jack Cochran, the father of Protopresbyter David Cochran, reposed in the Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2017.
Jack was born on June 12, 1940 in Webster Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Cleremont Cochran & Elladean (Schrader) Been. He married Lona (Carnegie) Cochran on June 12, 1964 in Lake Station, IN. He was a member of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Osceola Mills, PA.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150, a retired Operating Engineer Image of the U.S. Navy Sealfor Heckett Engineering of East Chicago Indiana and a 1958 graduate of the Hobart High School in Hobart, IN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Cochran Lindholm.
Along with his wife Lonia and his son, Protopresbyter David Cochran & wife Pani Andrea, he is survived by: two daughters, Amy Cochran of Hawk Run, PA and Heather Cochran & her fiance Kenneth Watro Sr. of Munson, PA; three sisters, Eizabeth Starling of FL, Paula Ezell of FL. and Lydia Stafford of FL. He is also survived by: eight grandchildren, Jacob Cochran, Sara Cochran, Anthony Laterzo, Stasia Laterzo, Madelaine Cochran, Lauren Stone, Timothy Stone and Zoe Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, a trustee of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, a member of the St. John’s Social Club, he participated in the Soup Kitchen and was a volunteer with the Piroghi sales.
He is preceeded in death by his loving parents Andrew & Anna ( nee Totin ); dear brother of Metropolitan Nicholas “Richard” Smisko, who passed away in 2011.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Rose Marie ( nee Fenenic ); beloved father of Rose Ann Smisko; loving brother of Michael and his wife Mary Ann Smisko, his brother-in-law Peter Jr. and his wife Lorraine Fenenic; adored uncle of Melissa Smisko ~ Holmes and her husband Barry Holmes, Jackie Dowling, Cassie and Andrea Fenenic; adored great ~ uncle of Hudson, Thea, Christopher and Alexis.
We begin to leave on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 9:15 am from Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay Street, Perth Amboy for a Divine Liturgy at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting is on Wednesday from 2 ~ 4 & 7 ~ 9 pm with a Parastas Service at 7:30 pm. The Funeral will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10 am at the Nativity of The Virgin Mary Orthodox Church 50 Koleski Club Rd, Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania 16666. Burial, with full military honors, will be at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be at Heath Funeral Home, 701 Lingle Street, Osceola Mills, PA 16666 on Wednesday February 15, 2017 from 2 -4 & 6-8 pm with a Panachida Service at 7:00 pm.
Diocesan Clergy and faithful are kindly asked to remember the newly departed servant + Jack and the entire Cochran family in their prayers.
