Fr. Peter Spiro, Director of the FREEDOM National Ministry and leader of the ARISTEVI Foundation, delivered a special presentation and luncheon address at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, D.C., highlighting the FREEDOM Ministry’s ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and support survivors through faith-based outreach.
This marks the second time Fr. Peter has been invited to speak at Saint Sophia. The parish community expressed deep interest in hearing updates on the FREEDOM Ministry’s growth and impact, as well as new stories of how the program continues to transform the lives of human trafficking survivors across the nation and abroad.

During the presentation, Fr. Peter shared compelling testimonies of restoration and success from his work with survivors through the Chapel of Saint Barbara and the ARISTEVI Foundation, which provides philanthropic programs and survivor services throughout the U.S. and internationally. His address offered insight into the hidden realities of modern-day trafficking and the many ways communities can respond with vigilance, compassion, and faith.
Parishioners engaged in thoughtful dialogue, asking questions about what human trafficking looks like in its various forms and how individuals and parishes can take action. Fr. Peter emphasized that awareness and prevention begin within the Church—through education, community partnership, and spiritual care for survivors.
The community of Saint Sophia Cathedral reaffirmed its ongoing dedication to confronting modern-day slavery and to supporting the Freedom National Ministry’s mission of hope, healing, and human dignity.
