On November 10, the FOCUS Cleveland community hosted a beautiful evening at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Rocky River for their Annual November Speaker Event, one of the Center’s key fundraising gatherings each year. The event brought together supporters, parishioners, clergy, and friends united by a shared desire to reveal Christ’s love through service to neighbors in need.
The featured speaker for the evening was Elissa Bjeletich-Davis, who offered an inspiring talk on “Church and Family: When Worship Shapes Everyday Life.” She reflected on how the life of the Church—especially the Divine Liturgy—can shape our homes, our families, and our daily decisions, inviting all present to carry the beauty of worship into every corner of their lives.
The program also included meaningful moments of recognition and gratitude. Kirk Barratt, FOCUS Cleveland’s Program Manager, presented the Diakonia Award to the Greater Cleveland Council of Orthodox Clergy in appreciation for their steadfast support and partnership in the ministry. Advisory Committee Members presented a second Diakonia Award to longtime supporter Bill McDonald, whose dedication has made a lasting impact on the work of FOCUS in Greater Cleveland. Bill’s wife, Mary, graciously accepted the award on his behalf.
Guests also heard exciting ministry updates from Claire Vlachos-Martin, Director of Operations for FOCUS North America, who shared how the work in Cleveland connects to FOCUS’ broader mission nationwide. Her remarks highlighted how local Centers like FOCUS Cleveland are vital expressions of a growing Orthodox movement of compassionate service.
As one of FOCUS Cleveland’s largest annual fundraisers, this event plays an important role in sustaining the Center’s ministry—providing food, clothing, hospitality, and ongoing support to neighbors throughout the region. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, gave generously, and helped make the evening so special.
On behalf of FOCUS North America, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the FOCUS Cleveland team, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, our clergy partners, and every supporter who continues to stand with this ministry.
