Today, Nov. 3, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America’s Department of Internet Technology issued a set of brief guidelines promoting cybersecurity for parishes and faithful.

The statement reads:

“The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America prioritizes the cybersecurity of our communities and parishioners. Here are four essential actions you, our fellow parishioners, and parishes can take to enhance security:

  1. Keep software up to date. Enable auto-updates on all your devices.
  2. Use strong passwords. Create unique passwords for all accounts and consider using a password manager like Apple’s Password or 1Password. Phrases of at least 16 characters mixed with numbers or symbols are best.
  3. Enable two-factor authentication on all accounts.
  4. Be alert to phishing! Always verify a sender and think before you click.”
