FOCUS Gateway City provides Orthodox Christians with opportunities to put their faith into action by serving those in need. In 2024, volunteers from 12 Orthodox churches gave 1,246 hours of their time, helping to provide 4,232 hot meals, distribute $19,222 worth of shelf-stable food, and give away over $11,000 in clothing and hygiene items. Through these efforts, we strive to see and serve Christ in our neighbors.
Programs That Make an Impact
This year, we expanded our work to restore dignity and provide hope in new ways:
- St. Elias Haircuts offered $2,006 in free haircuts and beard trims, helping guests regain confidence.
- St. Elijah’s Program provided $1,566 in long-distance bus tickets to help individuals and families reconnect with support systems and avoid homelessness.
One of those helped was a woman stranded in St. Louis after a series of hardships left her homeless. She found the strength to seek recovery and reached out to us for help getting back to her family in Boston. A $181 bus ticket made that possible. She had already taken the first steps toward rebuilding her life—we simply helped her get home.
Looking Ahead
We are working to increase meal service days and expand our pantry, but to do this, we need more volunteers and food donations. In the last three years, participation—both from guests and volunteers—has steadily grown, and we are ready to take the next steps.
