Introduction:

Building on this year’s OCF theme, “Jesus, The King of All,” today’s discussion invites us to reflect on what it truly means to be made in God’s image. As Orthodox Christians, we are called to live as reflections of God’s holiness, embodying His love, mercy, and truth in our daily lives. The idea that humanity is created as icons of God is deeply rooted in Scripture and central to our faith.

Fr. Stavros Akrotirianakis explores how this identity shapes the way we interact with one another and challenges us to live out Christ-like qualities in all that we do. As you engage with this teaching, consider how it applies to your life, your relationships, and your community. How can we rediscover what it means to live as icons of God and honor the divine image in ourselves and others? Click here to read the article.

Questions for Discussion:

  1. What does it mean to be created in the image of God?
  2. How does recognizing others as icons of God shape the way we treat them in our daily interactions?
  3. What practical steps can we take to honor the divine image in others through our words and actions?
  4. Reflect on the statement: “Our faces should reflect the dignity of an icon of God.” How does this inspire you to live differently?
  5. How can seeing ourselves and others as icons of God transform our relationships, workplaces, and school communities?

Bonus Activity:

Have everyone in your chapter bring their Orthodox Study Bibles and search for passages that mention light and righteousness, focusing on the New Testament. Each person can share one passage and explain how it reflects Jesus’s role as the source of righteousness. Afterward, discuss how living in the light of Christ impacts our daily lives and relationships with others.
