On November 10, the YES (Youth Equipped to Serve) program celebrated 20 remarkable years of empowering young leaders to love and serve others as the image of Christ. The anniversary gathering in Austin, TX, was a beautiful testament to the enduring impact of YES on countless lives across generations, with over 60 members of the YES community in attendance.
The event featured engaging workshops that tackled overcoming obstacles to service, equipping participants with tools to carry YES’s mission forward in their own communities. An inspiring outreach activity encouraged attendees to connect with their neighbors, embodying the spirit of service at the heart of YES.
The highlight of the weekend was a moving banquet celebration honoring the program’s legacy. Attendees reflected on the generations of leadership that have shaped YES and the profound difference it has made in communities around the country.
Keynote speakers included beloved voices from the YES family:
-
Kevin Schearer, Founder of YES who shared a powerful testimony about what prompted him to start YES.
-
Katrina Bitar, YES’s Former Director, who inspired everyone with her reflections on 15 years of transformative work.
-
Charles Ajalat, a founding supporter of YES, who emphasized the program’s role in raising leaders grounded in faith and compassion.
-
Wadeed Fakhoury, New Director of YES, who spoke with heartfelt passion about the importance of intergenerational mentorship in continuing the mission of YES.
Throughout the weekend, the spirit of joy, gratitude, and love was palpable. Together, we honored the YES mission: to love and serve each person as the image of Christ. As we look ahead, we are filled with hope for the future and gratitude for all who have made YES’s first 20 years so impactful.
Here’s to the next 20 years of service, love, and leadership!
