Three Ways YOU Can Reach Out And Make A Difference To Children Experiencing Homelessness
If you’re like most of us, you’ve probably been made aware of a need and thought “I want to serve, but I don’t know where to start”. So we’ve come up with these three ideas to help:
Educate yourself and your community.
Learning is a necessary step before action. Do your research! Contact local schools, shelters, and community organizations that may be able to help you understand how homelessness impacts families and children in your area.
Host a fundraiser or drive for needed items.
School supplies are a great place to start, and are needed year round by educators. There are other common needs children and families experiencing homelessness face as well – like socks and underwear.
Volunteer at a before or after school program in your community.
Whether you are tutoring, leading recreational activities, or making yourself available to jump in wherever there is a need – volunteering is a great way to engage in a new way.
