On Sunday, May 12, 2019, Saint Herman’s Orthodox Theological Seminary [SHS] held its 47th Commencement Exercises at the Afognak Native Corporation that overlooks Saint Paul Harbor and the city of Kodiak.

His Eminence, Archbishop David of Sitka and Alaska opened the ceremony with a heartfelt greeting to the guests, faculty, and students.  The greeting was followed by an inspiring keynote address from Rev. Dr. Patricia Wilson Cone, Clinical Pastoral Supervisor of the CPE program housed at Providence Anchorage Medical Center.

After Archbishop David presented a Reader Certificate to Joseph Evon, a second year seminarian from the village of Napaskiak, AK, Dr. Cone awarded CPE certificates to Archpriest John S. Dunlop, SHS Dean; Priest Michael Fredericks, attached to Anchorage, AK’s Saint Innocent Cathedral; Rev. Mark Overbeek, Pastor of Frontier Baptist Church, Kodiak, AK; Virginia Blake, Chaplain at Seward Providence Hospital; and Rachelle Yeates, Chaplain for Providence IT Department, Renton, WA.

The day concluded with a sumptuous meal prepared by the students and faculty of Saint Herman’s Seminary.
