JOHNSTOWN, PA –  The Diocesan Chancery has been informed that George Smisko,  the brother of  the late +Metropolitan Nicholas,  reposed in the Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2017. 

George was a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart three times and a Bronze Star during his three tours of duty.

George was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, a trustee of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, a member of the St. John’s Social Club, he participated in the Soup Kitchen and was a volunteer with the Piroghi sales.

He is preceeded in death by his loving parents Andrew & Anna ( nee Totin ); dear brother of Metropolitan Nicholas “Richard” Smisko, who passed away in 2011.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Rose Marie ( nee Fenenic ); beloved father of Rose Ann Smisko; loving brother of Michael and his wife Mary Ann Smisko, his brother-in-law Peter Jr. and his wife Lorraine Fenenic; adored uncle of Melissa Smisko ~ Holmes and her husband Barry Holmes, Jackie Dowling, Cassie and Andrea Fenenic; adored great ~ uncle of Hudson, Thea, Christopher and Alexis.

We begin to leave on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 9:15 am from Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay Street, Perth Amboy for a Divine Liturgy at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting is on Wednesday from 2 ~ 4 & 7 ~ 9 pm with a Parastas Service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will be at Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay Street, Perth Amboy on Wednesday February 8, 2017  from 2 -4 & 7-9 pm with a Parastas Service at 7:30 pm.
