On June 30, the 48th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress in Cleveland featured the introduction of the newly established Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America National Greek Folk Dance Ministry. Presented by George Demos, Stavros Karagiorgis, and Stacie Zambas Peroulas, the session outlined the Ministry’s background, vision, and three founding pillar projects, while addressing the practical challenges parishes face in establishing and sustaining folk dance programs.
The panel discussion highlighted Greek folk dance as a uniquely integrative ministry—one that draws together faith, movement, language, music, history, and fellowship. When cultivated intentionally, it engages youth and extended families, builds connection across parish ministries, and offers a meaningful long-term pathway into the life of the Church. Parishes engaged in this work, presenters emphasized, are not alone: the national ministry exists as a network committed to walking alongside them through consultation, collaboration, and shared resources.
