In partnership with One Bean Marketing, Ramona Pintea, National Hellenic Society, and the Detroit Cultural Center, the Hellenic Museum of Michigan is proud to present a celebration of the women of the Greek Revolution. Powerful, courageous, and independent changemakers who shaped history by championing democracy, freedom, and independence. The new exhibition, ‘#WeAreGreekWarriors: From the Greek Revolution to Today: The Power of the Heroines of 1821 Lives in Every Woman’, along with a rich cultural program of events and activities runs March 19-May 17, 2026.
The Greek heroines were fighters, strategists, community protectors, funders of freedom, and catalysts for change, proving that leadership takes many forms. Some of their names became legendary, but most remain unknown to this day. Their stories inspire women and girls everywhere to realize their own potential, see greatness in themselves, and create meaningful change.
What began as a social media campaign by One Bean Marketing (OBM) has evolved into a global movement, bringing these stories to new audiences across generations and around the world. #WeAreGreekWarriors brings the heroines of 1821 into today’s cultural conversation through bold imagery and modern storytelling. Building on the vibrant, modern narratives of OBM’s social campaign, the exhibit will showcase stunning original artwork by renowned contemporary artist Ramona Pintea, as well as exciting, thought-provoking, and interactive programming that will not only educate but also ignite the Greek Warrior spirit within us all.
“Launching #WeAreGreekWarriors in 2023 was my way of honoring the extraordinary women of the Greek Revolution, trailblazers who have been overlooked for far too long,” said Angie Xidias, owner OBM. “Seeing this initiative grow into a museum exhibition through powerful art and collaborative programming is incredibly exciting. This exhibit will restore these women to their rightful place in history as architects of revolution while also empowering the younger generation and inspiring women of today. I want women to know their strength and that anything is possible.”
In addition to viewing images from the original social campaign and Pintea’s works, return for exciting special events and interactive experiences throughout the exhibition.
Programming kicks off on March 19, with a concert featuring internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Alkyone. Her distinctive fusion of indie-pop and traditional music has captivated audiencesaround the world. This exclusive Detroit performance is presented in partnership with Detroit Institute of Arts. Songs are presented in Greek and English. A pre-show reception, offering the opportunity to meet Alkyone and preview the exhibition, will take place at the museum earlier in the evening.
Among the upcoming events are book discussions and signings, a cultural performance, and interactive programming. In partnership with National Hellenic Society, the museum will screen the gripping drama, CLIFFS OF FREEDOM (2019), set at the dawn of the Greek War of Independence of 1821. Directed by Van Ling, the epic film stars Tanya Raymonde, Christopher Plummer, Patti LuPone, Billy Zane, and Costas Mandylor.
“This exhibition exemplifies our vision of becoming a vibrant cultural hub where our Hellenic heritage inspires dialogues, fosters understanding, and connects diverse communities,” said Harry Gaggos, executive director of the Hellenic Museum of Michigan. “Through the stories of these remarkable women depicted through art, literature, cinema, and dance, we hope our exhibition line up will demonstrate once again how the arts continue to connect us across generations and communities.”
