The Department of Religious Education (DRE), in collaboration with the Metropolis of Pittsburgh Religious Education Committee, is pleased to announce the launch of a new monthly newsletter support Orthodox Christian families in nurturing faith-centered homes. Designed as a resource for parents, the newsletter invites families to engage together in meaningful discussions around Orthodox Christian topics aligned with the liturgical calendar and major feast days. 

Each issue will offer age-appropriate conversation prompts, practical ideas, and curated resources to help families integrate Orthodox teachings, traditions, and practices into everyday family life. The goal of the newsletter is to strengthen faith formation at home by equipping families with accessible tools that foster spiritual growth, shared reflection, and intentional discipleship. 

Issued monthly, the newsletter reflects a collaborative commitment to supporting families as the primary nurturers of faith, while reinforcing the rhythms and theology of the Orthodox Church year. 

You can find each monthly issue of the In the Home newsletter on the Metropolis of Pittsburgh Religious Education webpage. Families are welcome to read the newsletter online or download it for use throughout the month. 

Here’s how it works:  

  • Download and save to your device or print a copy for your household. 
  • Find and read aloud the Gospel passage provided in the newsletter as a family. Use the Orthodox Study Bible or the RSV Bible (the text the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese uses for liturgical services). You can also find the Gospel Readings online under: www.goarch.org/chapel. 
  • Use the questions in the TALKS AROUND THE TABLE section to guide meaningful conversation. These questions are designed to help families reflect on the Gospel reading and newsletter subject by connecting it to daily life. 
  • The RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT highlights additional trusted Orthodox resources that support the month’s theme.  
  • Read the QUOTES FROM THE FATHERS to show how the Church has understood and lived the Gospel throughout history.  
  • Explore the BOOK REVIEWS for continued learning beyond the newsletter. 
  • Complete the activity in the CREATIVE CORNER to help children engage with the faith through creativity and play. 
  • Choose a service opportunity from the FAITH IN ACTION section. Consider how your family can live out Christ’s teachings together during the month and invite others to do the same.
