Yesterday, January 20, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America offered his blessing and presided over the cutting of the Vasilopita for the Direct Archdiocesan District Philoptochos, marking the beginning of the new year with prayer, gratitude, and hope.

“I know that the Philoptochos is brimming with gracious and grace-filled Sisters in Christ, whose devotion to their God, their parishes, and their families, is matched only by their compassion for the needy in their midst,” His Eminence said. “One of the most beautiful things about Philoptochos is how you imitate our Lord Jesus Christ; for your benefactions are not based on the merit of an individual or group, but on their need. And so it is with our Lord and us … ‘God gave sure and certain proof of His own love for us, because while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’”

Also in attendance were the Chancellor of the Direct Archdiocesan District, Rev. Protopresbyter Elias Villis, and the Advisor to the District Philoptochos, Rev. Archimandrite Chrysostomos Gilbert. The gathering was a beautiful expression of faith, unity, and loving service, guided by the dynamic and loving leadership of District President Mrs. Irene Hotzoglou, honoring Philoptochos and its continued commitment to philanthropy, compassion, and the life of the Church.
