His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America joyfully received and blessed the new ministry of Fr. Gabriel Galafaniakis, as seen in the accompanying photo with the District Chancellor, the Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Elias G. Villis. Beginning December 1, 2025, Fr. Gabriel Galafaniakis will begin his new assignment as the Assistant Priest at the Archangel Michael Church in Port Washington, N.Y.
Father Gabriel Galifaniakis was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Eminence on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, September 14, 2023, at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 12, 2024, at his home parish, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Southampton, NY.
Born in Jamaica, Queens, Father Gabriel moved with his family to the East End of Long Island at age six. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Stony Brook University and a Master of Divinity from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. Prior to his full-time studies at Holy Cross, he completed coursework at Saint Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Yonkers, NY. He graduated from Holy Cross in December 2023 with high honors and as valedictorian of his class. During seminary, he also served as Chapel Ecclesiarch, recognized for his devotion to the altar and deep love for the liturgical life of the Church.
Father Gabriel began his ministry at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Washington, D.C., serving as Assistant Priest under the guidance of Father Steve Zorzos from February 1, 2024, through December 2025.
He and Presvytera Samantha are the proud parents of their daughter, Athena Marie.
