It is announced that, following the falling of its ever-memorable Abbot, Elder Joseph, the brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of Saint Nektarios in Roscoe, New York, convened on Friday, June 5, 2026, in the monastery’s Katholikon and proceeded with the canonical process for the election of a new Abbot.
During the secret ballot that was held, the Reverend Hieromonk Fr. Stephanos, known in the world as Constantine Giannakopoulos, a spiritual child of the ever-memorable Elder Joseph, was elected as the new Abbot of the Monastery.
Upon receiving the news of the election, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros expressed his paternal joy and satisfaction with the decision of the Brotherhood, praying that the newly elected Abbot may serve the Holy Monastery “with wisdom, humility, and love,” continuing the spiritual legacy of his blessed predecessor, as well as that of the blessed Elder Ephraim of Arizona, and contributing to the continued growth and fruitfulness of the monastic life.
The newly elected Abbot is distinguished for his ecclesiastical ethos, spiritual steadfastness, obedience, and dedication to the monastic ideals; virtues that provide assurance for the continuation of the mission and spiritual journey of the Holy Monastery.
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America extends its congratulations to the newly elected Abbot and to the entire Brotherhood of the Holy Monastery, praying that our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercessions of our Father among the Saints, Nektarios the Wonderworker, may grant him strength, discernment, and abundant blessings from above in his new ministry.
The cheirothesia and enthronement of the new Abbot will take place on September 3, 2026.
