The National Philoptochos is honored to announce the presentation of a $36,795 grant to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Girl Delegate Program, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to nurturing the next generation of faithful, compassionate, and globally engaged Orthodox leaders.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America stated, “The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America’s United Nations Girl Delegate Program continues its vital mission of uplifting young Greek Orthodox women and equipping them to address global issues through the light of Orthodox Christian values. I am grateful as well for the dedicated support of our National Philoptochos, whose generosity sustains and strengthens this program, helping young women answer their calling as faithful leaders.”

The grant was formally presented by Anita Kartalopoulos, First Vice President of National Philoptochos, and is emblematic of Philoptochos’ support for youth initiatives, while the organization continues its decades-long support for those in need throughout our sacred Archdiocese. The Girl Delegate Program is a pioneering initiative that uniquely integrates Orthodox Christian values with global advocacy, empowering young Greek Orthodox women to become leaders both within their faith communities and on the international stage. Through its focus on girls’ rights, environmental and social justice, the program equips participants with the tools and experiences to meaningfully advocate for critical issues affecting the world today.

Father Nicholas Kazarian stated, “The Girl Delegate Program to the United Nations offers a unique opportunity for Greek Orthodox high school girls to engage directly with the international community. Through its consultative status at the United Nations, and with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the Ecumenical Department of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has developed this unique initiative to inspire and equip young women with leadership and advocacy skills that will serve both their personal futures and the future of our Church. I am especially grateful to Niki Devaris-Morgulis for her vision in initiating this program, and for her dedication in developing and stewarding it with such care and love. I am also deeply grateful to the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society for their trust and generous support of this project.”

The $36,795 grant will support a wide range of programmatic initiatives throughout the year. Funding for the Spring Program includes scholarships for five participants, meals, transportation, and engagement in key events such as the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), including participating in orientation sessions, round table discussions with international representatives at the United Nations, and attending the United Voices 4 Peace concert. The Fall Program will similarly provide scholarships, meals, and transportation, along with participation in International Day of the Girl Speak Out events, a United Nations tour, and a cultural exhibition. Additional funding will support a paid summer internship, as well as marketing and communications materials, program merchandise, and memberships in strategic partner organizations.

Debbie George, President of National Philoptochos, reflected on the significance of this initiative, stating, “It is a profound honor to support these exceptional young women through this meaningful program. Their commitment to faith, leadership, and service exemplifies the very values we strive to uphold. This investment represents not only their future, but the continued vitality and impact of the Greek Orthodox faith, Hellenism, and Philoptochos.”

This investment underscores National Philoptochos’ enduring mission to serve with faith, compassion, and philanthropy, while fostering leadership rooted in Orthodox Christian values. By supporting the Girl Delegate Program, National Philoptochos is not only investing in individual young women but also strengthening the voice and presence of the Greek Orthodox community in critical global conversations.

As these young delegates step forward with conviction, faith, and purpose, they embody the very essence of Philoptochos, love of humanity in action, ensuring a vibrant, engaged, and impactful future for generations to come.
