In a beautiful example of philanthropy and dedication to Hellenic education, V. Rev. Archimandrite Ierotheos Makropoulos, along with the faithful community of SaintsAnargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Washington Heights, has donated $20,000 to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America in support of the Saint Demetrios Greek American School of Astoria.

This generous donation was made as a gesture of solidarity with the mission of the School and of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in general, regarding Hellenic education in America.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros thanked the community for their generous donation, stating, “We are deeply moved by your generous donation to the mission of the St. Demetrios Greek American School of Astoria, as well as to the mission of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in general, with regards to Hellenic education in America. Such acts of generosity exemplify the spirit of stewardship that guides our community life.”

This generous donation also reflects a long-standing relationship between Fr. Ierotheos Makropoulos, his family, and the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Community of Astoria. Indeed, over the years, Fr. Ierotheos and his family have supported the Astoria Greek Orthodox Community in a wide range of ways, especially with regard to the donation of the Chapel of Saints Raphael, Nicolas, and Eirini to the Hellenic Orthodox Community Saint Demetrios of Astoria, as well as in a wide range of other philanthropic deeds and smaller donations to the Community throughout the years.

Archimandrite Ierotheos Makropoulos and his parish of Saints Anargyroi are known for their love of and dedication to the life of the Church, and for their unstinting support for educational initiatives that cultivate the faith, language, and cultural heritage of future generations. This generous gift is an exemplary model for parishes to extend their mission and support the larger Archdiocesan family.

This generous gift comes at an opportune time when Saint Demetrios Greek American School, one of the most historic and dynamic centers of Hellenic learning in the United States, continues its mission to educate children in the rich tradition of Greek language, culture, and Orthodox Christian faith.

The Archdiocese warmly commends Fr. Ierotheos and the faithful members of Saints Anargyroi for their generous gift and leadership. This exemplary model demonstrates the power and results that can be achieved when all members of the community come together to support Hellenic education.

The Archdiocese also calls on all parishes, organizations, and individuals throughout the United States to follow this inspiring model and support educational institutions such as Saint Demetrios Greek American School. Together, we can ensure that the legacy of our faith, language, and culture continues to thrive for generations to come.

This generous gift also brings to mind that the strength and vitality of our Greek Orthodox Community are not only based on our heritage and tradition but also on our ability to support each other in pursuing a dynamic future for Hellenism and Orthodoxy in America.
