NEW YORK — Greece’s new ambassador to the United States, Antonis Alexandridis, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, where he met for the first time with His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.

The two discussed issues of mutual concern to Hellenism and the Greek-American community, as well as continued cooperation between Greece’s diplomatic mission and the Archdiocese. Also present was the Consul General of Greece in New York, Ifigenia Kanara.

Alexandridis, a career diplomat, began his duties in Washington earlier this year. Born in Volos in 1969, he holds a law degree from the University of Athens and an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge; his prior assignments have included postings in India, Italy, and at the European Union, as well as ambassadorial appointments to the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and France.

Archbishop Elpidophoros welcomed the ambassador and wished him a fruitful tenure, underscoring the Archdiocese’s readiness to work with the Embassy and Consulate on matters affecting Hellenism and the Orthodox Christian community.
