This morning, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV accepted the resignation of His Eminence Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, 75, from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of New York, and appointed Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks, currently Bishop of Joliet, as the Metropolitan Archbishop of New York.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America issued the following statement via social media:
“With gratitude and deep respect, we offer our heartfelt congratulations to His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan upon the acceptance of his resignation by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.
Throughout the years, Cardinal Dolan has been a steadfast friend of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and a true ecumenical partner. His openness, generosity of spirit, and unwavering commitment to Christian unity have strengthened relationships between our Sister Churches and enriched our shared witness in the public square.
As he enters this new chapter of life and ministry, we pray that God grant him abundant blessings, good health, and continued joy in service to the Gospel.”
