On Thursday, September 18, 2025, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew made a special visit to the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George & Saint Demetrios in New York City to venerate the miraculous icon of Panagia Giatrissa (“The Healer”) located in the church, together with the parish’s two Patron Protectors.

This was the Ecumenical Patriarch’s first visit to the historic community following the good news of his personal health. During the Patriarch’s previous Apostolic Visit to the United States in 2021, His All-Holiness underwent successful surgery, headed by a team of doctors who are parishioners at the church in Upper Manhattan.

Dr. George Dangas, Dr. George Syros and Dr. Stamatis Lerakis, along with the Very Rev. Archimandrite Michael Giavris and faithful members of the community, welcomed His All-Holiness to the church for the first-ever visit of an Ecumenical Patriarch in the parish’s nearly century-long history.
