The community of Hellenic College Holy Cross began the 2025-2026 academic year with an opening Convocation, held at the Maliotis Cultural Center in Brookline, Massachusetts.

The St. Romanos the Melodist Byzantine Choir offered hymns for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, and the day of prayer and reflection included the presence and blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.

“It is not enough for us to merely assent to the Faith of Jesus Christ. It is not enough for you to only learn the intellectual and ritual expressions of our Holy Orthodox Church at our Σχολή,” Archbishop Elpidophoros emphasized. “If your education here, under the sign of the Holy and Life-giving Cross, is to mean anything, then it must lead you into…suffering for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The program began with a warm welcome and introduction from Fr. Michael Lambakis, Dean of Students; greetings followed from Consul General of Greece in Boston Symeon Tegos, Dean of Hellenic College Dr. Nicholas Ganson, and President of HCHC Dr. Demetrios Katos.

The Convocation Address was delivered by Fr. Eugen J. Pentiuc, Dean of Holy Cross, who emphasized the importance of language acquisition, specifically the Greek language (biblical, Byzantine, and modern), for seminarians and for liberal arts education at HCHC. Watch the full video.
