On Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 1:30 PM (EST), Archimandrite Sergius (Bowyer), abbot of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Monastery in South Canaan, PA, will present a Zoom retreat for widows of OCA clergy titled, “Prayer.” Father Sergius has been guiding the monastery for 14 years.
Archimandrite Sergius, originally from California, is a convert to the Orthodox Christian faith, and a graduate of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. Father Sergius entered the monastic life, being tonsured as a monk at Saint Tikhon’s Monastery.
Aside from his duties as a monk, Father Sergius also trained future priests for Orthodox churches by serving as the lecturer in Liturgical Music at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, one of his many fortes. After many years of prayerful service as a monk, Father Sergius was ordained to the Holy Diaconate and to the Holy Priesthood in December 2008. Archimandrite Sergius was installed as the sixteenth Abbot of Saint Tikhon’s Monastery in January 2010.
