Clergy of the Orthodox Church in America are invited to apply to take part in the second annual Summer Institute in the Church of Russia July 25 through August 5, 2019.

“This unique educational, religious, and cultural exchange program will be made up of a delegation selected by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon,” said Archpriest Kirill Sokolov, Ed.D., Director of Diaconal and Late Vocations and Secretary of the OCA’s Board of Theological Education.  “A goal of this program is to equip the emerging leaders of the Orthodox Church in America with a broad perspective on the modern life of the Church of Russia.

“In June 2018, a delegation of 12 OCA clergy took part in the inaugural Institute in Moscow,” Father Kirill explained.  “As one of last year’s participants noted, ‘We had a great time of learning and fellowship….  I cannot recommend it enough for priests to experience this broad and unique insight into the life of the Church.’  Another participant recollected how the Institute enriched his ministry here in North America.”

The Institute is being organized at the invitation of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Rector of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies, with the blessing of His Holiness, Patriarch Kirill.

“Participants’ expenses, including accommodations, will be covered by our hosts upon arrival in Russia,” Father Kirill continued.  “Group travel from New York’s JFK Airport is being arranged by FOS Tours and Travel, which will assist with visa support.”

Father Kirill added that participants should budget $1,900.00 [US] for travel, visa processing, and other expenses.  Selected participants will be responsible for all costs associated with travel and visa support, with no refunds.

“Parishes are encouraged to support their clergy in this excellent continuing education opportunity, he added.  “Participants, who are responsible for securing the blessing of their respective diocesan hierarchs, will be required to take part in reflection and other exercises as part of their experience before and after the Institute.”

Metropolitan Tikhon will appoint the Institute delegation based on applications received.  Applications, now available online, must be submitted to May 10.
