JOHNSTOWN, PA –    With great sorrow, the Diocesan Chancery announces the falling asleep in the Lord of  Very Rev. Protopresbyter Ronald Hazuda on  Thursday, May 5, 2017. He is survived by his daughter Tamara  and son-in-law John Kloss, son George Hazuda,  grandson, Alexander and sister Ann Thear.  He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Pani Dolores, sister Mary (Opresko) and brothers John and George, Jr. 

Fr. Ronald was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence, Metropolitan Orestes, and was assigned to Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Newark, NJ. For more than fifty years, Fr. Ronald served the faithful of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church of Erie, PA with piety, strength and unwavering faith.

In addition to serving the Parish family of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Father Ronald offered his business acumen to the Diocese, and faithfully served as member of the Diocesan Consistory, Diocesan Treasurer and Director of the Diocesan Priests, Pension Plan. In recognition of his faithful service to the Diocese,  His Grace, Bishop Gregory recently bestowed the coveted, Bohorodica Award, upon Fr. Ronald.

In retirement,  Fr. Ronald, as Pastor Emeritus of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church,  always stood ready to assist as needed; and also served the parishioners of St. Nicholas’s sister parish  Mary Church of Corry, PA.

Friends will be received at On Wed, May 10, 2017 at  St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 1115 East Avenue in Erie from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. The Priest’s Parastas will be sung at 7 PM.  The Funeral Divine Liturgy will take place at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Parish Cemetery. 

May our good God grant blessed repose and rest eternal to His faithful servant, the newly-departed servant, The Priest Ronald and render eternal  his memory, Vicnaja Jemu Pamjat!, Christos Voskres!  Christ is Risen!
