On Tuesday evening, March 14, the myrrh-streaming Icon of the Mother of God “Softener of Evil Hearts” while traveling throughout the eastern United States visited Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Passaic, New Jersey. An akathist before the Wonderworking icon was served by parish rector, Priest Stephen Kaznica. Fr. Stephen was co-served by the Chancellor of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Archpriest George Konyev, Eastern American Diocesan Secretary, Archpriest Serge Lukianov and Priest Dimitri Jakimowicz (cleric of the Western American Diocese).
Despite the fact that the local area was blanketed in snow and ice earlier in the day hindering travel for most, a significant number of worshippers flocked to the cathedral to lift up their prayers to the Mother of God. After the akathist, all those were anointed with myrrh from the Holy Icon. Even long after the service concluded, the faithful remained close to the icon, not wanting to leave Her side. The remainder of the icon’s visitation schedule can be accessed by visiting the website of the Eastern American Diocese of ROCOR.
