Hellenic College Holy Cross expresses its deepest sympathy on the repose of Rev. Fr. Matthew Gilbert of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Rev. Fr. Matthew was a graduate of both Hellenic College (BA ’79) and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (MDiv ’82), and ordained to the Holy Priesthood at Holy Cross Chapel in May 1982.

Rev. Fr. Matthew was married for 35 years to Presvytera Denise, and with her leaves six children and two grandchildren. He passed into eternal life at St. Anthony’s Monastery in Florence, Arizona, where he spent his final days surrounded by family. He was 58 years old, and diagnosed with cancer less than three months ago.

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, will preside at the Funeral Service for Rev. Fr. Matthew today at St. Anthony’s Monastery. Also participating in the funeral will be His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver and His Grace Bishop Apostolos of Medeia.

A Trisagion was served at Holy Cross Chapel on the day of Rev. Fr. Michael’s passing, and again this morning following Orthros.

May the memory of Rev. Fr. Matthew Gilbert be eternal!
